Physical Therapy Available at Lakeside Sports & Pain Clinic

A physical therapist for over 15 years, Theresa Plasencia specializes in outpatient orthopedics. She is one of the few licensed physical therapists to have expertise in women's health physical therapy, in addition to her emphasis on back and neck pain treatment.

Theresa earned an M.S. with Distinction in Physical therapy, from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She also holds a B.A. in Physical Education from the University of California at Davis.

During her years as a practitioner, Theresa has observed first-hand the many ways in which different parts of the body can interact. A condition primarily caused by illness or injury, for example, can be aggravated by variable such as muscle tension, joint restrictions, scar tissue, and even posture. This understanding is at the heart of her holistic approach to physical therapy.

An initial visit to Theresa begins with a discussion of the problem. If the patient has been referred by a physician, nurse-midwife, or other practitioner, Theresa reviews their diagnosis and recommendation with the patient. She then assesses the condition, by observing and gently working with the patient's body.

After a thorough evaluation, Theresa develops an individualized plan for treatment, drawing on years of experience with many physical therapy techniques.

To monitor progress, Theresa consults regularly with the referring practitioner and the patient, taking into account their assessments as well as her own. She can then continue or modify the treatment plan, with the goal of relieving the patient's symptoms as quickly as possible.
